Carelessness and care. The world to the test of the pandemic and beyond … Women’s thoughts and practices
October 23rd, 2:00 pm
Introduction: what gender (kind) of world? women against war, violence, the hypocrisy of politics.
Welcoming those who are forced to flee, supporting those who fight for rights in their own country
First session (180 minutes) 15 speeches/10 minutes each + 30 minutes
How did the pandemic find us? The syndemic crisis and the policies of the states: the neoliberal neglect, privatizations and social cuts how much they have influenced the effects of the crisis
– Situation of countries in March 2020 – Different conditions, different consequences- Different States’ reactions: lockdowns, other measures, underestimation, used for repression.Right wing’s instrumental use of the covid restrictions in some countries (no vax, no green pass) – The intellectual property of vaccine patents and the power of multinationals: the majority of the world’s population is not vaccinated!- Back to “normality”? Yes or No. The crisis has increased global inequalities, highlighted the failure of the health system, produced a decrease in employment, especially of women …
From care-work (highly visible also in the pandemic: nurses, cleaning in hospitals, smartworking + home and family…) to the questioning of the hierarchy between production and reproduction; women rights. Smartworking not only make women’s work more heavy, but cancels social relations between workers, it is becoming “normal”, but sociality is a fundament of work!
October 24thSecond session (180 minutes) 15 speeches 10 minutes/each + 30 minutes
What are the possible alternatives for transformation? – Feminist challenges
Feminism has been highlighting the “paradigm of care” that has taken hold, taking on the meaning of a new paradigm to transform the world. (see Manifesto della cura by The care collective ; Magnolia assembly and demo; SocietàdellaCura; Latin American ministers Cepal.??.etc)
Popular neo-mutualism and conflict: women’s groups and spaces as concrete experiences to redesign new forms of organization and conflict; common goods and female subjectivities. Economy, health, education.
Environement and climate crisisNo to military expenses, production and trade – Productive reconversion
Feminist assessment of political responses to the crisis: what has been done and plannedWe need different economic and social policies of governments and new role of states and international Institutions. Need for a feminist and trans-feminist movement that imposes our themes and objectives on the international scene.
